About The Position

The Veterans Outreach Program Specialist (VOPS) serves as the principal outreach staff member for Military Reserve and National Guard members returning from various military operations. This role focuses on assisting veterans and their families in understanding their rights and responsibilities, providing training and information to VA staff and community agencies, and ensuring that clients receive appropriate services and follow-up evaluations.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
• Active and unexpired driver's license is required.
• Specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-05 level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
• Education may substitute for experience; a full year of graduate education or superior academic achievement is acceptable for GS-07 level.
• Combination of education and experience may also qualify.

Nice To Haves

• Experience developing and maintaining working relationships with service provision agencies and individuals.
• Ability to explain basic entitlements to veterans and their families.
• Experience preparing and maintaining client records and administrative reports.

Responsibilities

• Participate in and provide training and information to VA staff, other federal agencies, and community agencies.
• Assist veteran clients and their families in understanding their rights and responsibilities.
• Identify existing and potential problem areas, suggesting solutions or alternatives.
• Conduct follow-up evaluations of clients to determine if they and their families have received all appropriate services and provide additional services or referrals as required.
• Distribute outreach materials including brochures, fact sheets, web content, and other targeted information.
• Participate in transitional assistance program briefings.
