About The Position

The Veterans Outreach Coordinator at Home Base Florida serves as a vital point of contact for veterans and their families in Southwest Florida, focusing on education and outreach regarding Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). This role involves guiding veterans through the treatment evaluation process, fostering relationships with local organizations, and advocating for veterans' needs within the Home Base program. The Coordinator works closely with clinical staff to ensure effective patient management and outreach, embodying values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3 years military experience required; at least one deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan preferred.
  • Must have an honorable discharge (proof of DD 214 required).
  • Excellent communication skills, including effective public speaking skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • Ability to work in a complex, fast-paced environment with total flexibility in scheduling and workload.
  • Familiarity with PTSD and TBI and the challenges faced by veterans and their families.
  • Knowledge of the Veterans Administration (VA) system and community-based veteran resources.

  • Experience collaborating with people and/or advocacy work.
  • Ability to advocate and negotiate systems within MGH and outside on behalf of veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a liaison between Home Base clinicians and veterans and their families to guide them to appropriate care.
  • Create and sustain relationships with Florida veterans and local organizations to provide community education about Home Base resources.
  • Advise senior leaders on successes and challenges in connecting veterans with PTS/TBI issues to seek treatment.
  • Act as the 'veteran face' of the Home Base Program and collaborate with Communications and Development to raise awareness.
  • Work with Clinical Social Workers to manage patient participation and assist with treatment planning.
  • Maintain a resource database and identify external resources for patient needs.
  • Collaborate with other Home Base Programs as assigned.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute Adventure Series activities for veterans and their families.
