About The Position

The Veterans Assistance Counselor 1/2 will serve the veterans of Rapides Parish, conducting personal interviews and counseling veterans and their dependents regarding their entitlements under state and federal laws. The role involves assisting in the completion of various forms, gathering supporting documentation, and monitoring the processing of claims to ensure a justifiable conclusion. This position may be filled as either a probational or temporary appointment, with a focus on providing essential services to veterans.

Requirements

• Must be an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Armed Forces.
• A baccalaureate degree or equivalent work experience is required.
• Six years of full-time work experience in any field may substitute for the required degree.

Responsibilities

• Conduct personal interviews and counsel veterans and their dependents regarding entitlement under state and federal laws.
• Assist veterans and their dependents in completing a variety of forms to actuate their benefits.
• Gather supporting documentary information for claims processing.
• Monitor the processing of claims to ensure compliance with rules and regulations.
• Provide assistance to veterans for admissions to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Hospitals and correction of military records.
• Operate itinerant office in other parishes as required.
