About The Position

American GI Forum - National Veterans Outreach Program is a nonprofit organization. Our mission is to establish and maintain a comprehensive community service agency with a diversified funding source serving the needs of Veterans, their families, and other individuals of the community who are in need. Our goal is to establish innovative programs of service for the contemporary needs, through an expansion and growth policy that will seek complimentary services that will generate self-sustaining mechanisms for the organization The Veteran Monitor is the first point of contact at the Dormitory, and therefore the face of the American G.I. Forum NVOP. The veteran monitor must present him/herself with the utmost professionalism, displaying respect and courtesy to all who contact the Dormitory front lobby and/or granted access on Dormitory property. This includes fellow staff members, visitors, partners, and veterans participating in the Transitional Housing Program.

Requirements

  • The candidate should have at least 4 years of increasingly responsible experience with the provision of services to veterans and/or the homeless.
  • Knowledge of veteran’s services and programs is critical.
  • Must have transportation and a valid Texas driver’s license.
  • Must also provide proof of current vehicle liability insurance.
  • Must pass a drug test and background record check.
  • Typing and Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Must be able to multitask, carry out responsibilities, and have the ability to solve problems under general supervision
  • Must take initiative and be self-motivated to perform well
  • Computer literate in using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Good understanding of the multitude of problems faced by veterans
  • Professional and productive demeanor, as well as ensuring that actions are supportive of others.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Must be able to speak before groups when necessary
  • Must be able to make independent decisions in coordination with service objectives.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Treats each veteran respectfully, maintains efficiency, professionalism, and courtesy at all times.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining a calm, friendly, and cooperative environment within the facility and with participants to promote a healthy environment.
  • Responsible for setting up and breaking down breakfast.
  • The veteran monitor will actively ensure the safety and wellbeing of all veterans on Dormitory property and maintain a constant visual awareness of all individuals always entering / departing Dormitory property.
  • The veteran monitor will conduct daily room checks, confirming that the veteran assigned to room being checked is present and not in need of any assistance. Will conduct a walk through the exterior grounds, parking lot, Lulu’s parking lot to confirm Dormitory grounds are secured. The veteran monitor will enforce the Dormitory’s nightly noise free policy.
  • The veteran monitor will be present during breakfast and maintain order and efficiency while breakfast is being served, to include but not limited to confirming that veterans participating in breakfast are receiving the set portion of breakfast items.
  • The veteran monitor will conduct inspections of all bags, backpacks, satchels, grocery bags, suitcases, messenger bags, etc.
  • The veteran monitor will conduct random breathalyzer tests on veterans.
  • The veteran monitor will maintain documentation, logs, and any other forms as per policy and as directed by management.
  • The veteran monitor will promptly report any issues or concerns regarding veterans to all appropriate staff including management.
