About The Position

The Vet Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality care to animals. This position involves assisting with routine procedures, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and ensuring the comfort and well-being of animal patients. The Vet Assistant will be responsible for preparing animals for examinations, administering medications as directed, and monitoring their condition throughout their visit. Additionally, this role requires effective communication with pet owners to provide instructions and support regarding animal care. Ultimately, the Vet Assistant contributes to the smooth operation of the veterinary practice and the delivery of compassionate animal care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience or training in animal care or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of animal handling and safety procedures.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work collaboratively within a veterinary team.
  • Strong communication skills to interact compassionately with pet owners and team members.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a veterinary clinic or animal shelter environment.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology related to veterinary care.
  • Basic knowledge of animal behavior.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations and treatments by restraining animals and preparing necessary equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of examination rooms, surgical areas, and animal housing to ensure a safe environment.
  • Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed, monitoring their behavior and reporting any concerns to veterinary staff.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinary professionals, following established protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners to provide guidance on post-treatment care, medication administration, and general animal health.
