About The Position

The Vessel Charter Manager will act as the primary link between the project teams and vessel owners and be responsible for the strategic and operational management of third-party vessel charters required for all installation-related activities. As well as managing and protecting the company’s commercial position, the role will ensure that there is a consistent flow of information between the parties to allow for successful project execution as well as working with the Master Scheduler to ensure that utilization is maximized. Where gaps in utilization may look to develop the charter manager will be responsible for finding alternate utilization to fill unutilized gaps or work with vessel owner to mitigate any standby costs.

Requirements

  • Degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Engineering, or related field
  • Project Management Experience
  • 5–10 years of vessel chartering experience in offshore construction sector
  • Strong knowledge of offshore vessel types and capabilities
  • Understanding of industry contracting forms such as BIMCO contracts

Nice To Haves

  • Offshore experience/knowledge preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support the commercial team with the chartering process including sourcing, evaluation, negotiation, and contract execution
  • Act as liaison between vessel owner and internal project teams/master scheduler to ensure key periods such as maintenance periods, dry dockings are captured within our own planning. Working with fleet, appointing charters reps during maintenance periods and dry dockings to ensure operational oversight of routine and corrective works
  • Ensuring vessel owner has in place correct deployment procedures and where necessary any specific procedures related to Subcom cable and plant.
  • Lead and manage annual vessel and owner management audits
  • Ensure that charter payments are accurately captured and that internally these are allocated to the correct project. Vessel downtime to be accurately captured and reflected within the forthcoming billing cycle and business is not paying for days it is incorrectly billed for. Where the vessel owner encounters issues, ensure that internal resources are appropriately engaged to resolve issues as quickly as possible, then working with owner on agreed improvements.
  • Provide weekly vessel reporting as well as monitoring and closing out any operational/management deficiencies noted throughout the term of the charter ensuring vessel is in a continuing state of readiness
  • Manage charter contracts and ensure adherence to agreed commercial terms
  • Host monthly planning meetings between vessel owners and master schedulers to allow vessel owners adequate planning time for future project scopes, assisting in obtaining necessary information for future projects e.g. work scopes, permits, visas, etc
  • Oversee daily vessel performance, plough/surface lay performance, progress rates and resolve operational issues, in particular closing out of any operational observations/deficiencies and that lessons learned between projects, do not get missed.
  • Tracking 3rd party vessel progress with key performance metrics
