Your Impact The Vertex Operational Excellence Co-Op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards undergraduate or advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or other related fields. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our manufacturing strategy functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career. What you will be doing: Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly motivated and curious co-op to join the Operational Excellence (OpEx) team and support AI adoption. This role will focus on enabling intelligent workflows, building internal capability, and fostering a culture of experimentation through generative AI tools like Microsoft Copilot. The ideal candidate will be passionate about AI, eager to learn, and excited to contribute to high-impact initiatives that transform how teams work.

Requirements

Currently pursuing a degree in one of the following areas: Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering Business Analytics or Information Systems
Familiarity with generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude), prompt engineering, context engineering, connectors (model context protocol).
Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work cross-functionally.
Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future.

Nice To Haves

Experience with Python, SQL, Power BI, Power Automate, or M365 tools is a plus.
Experience with Operational Excellence (Lean Six Sigma, Process Mapping, etc.) is a plus

Responsibilities

Agent Development: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deploy AI agents that automate routine tasks and improve productivity.
Prompt Engineering Enablement: Develop and deliver training on prompt engineering, including use-case templates and best practices to build AI fluency across the organization.
Office Hours & Community Engagement: Host weekly office hours to support users, gather feedback, and share tips and tricks. Help build a vibrant internal AI community.
AI Governance & Use Case Documentation: Assist in documenting AI use cases, agent performance metrics, and governance protocols to ensure responsible deployment and alignment with enterprise standards.
