Your Impact The Vertex CGT Analytical Development Co-Op program is a 6-month experiential training program for students currently working towards an undergraduate or advanced in Chemistry, Biology, or other related fields. If you are passionate, collaborative, and growth-minded, a co-op at Vertex will help you gain meaningful experience in our biopharmaceutical sciences functional areas and serve as a launchpad for your career. What you will be doing: Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a co-op student to join our Analytical Development (AD) department onsite in Boston, MA. AD creates the investigational techniques critical to interrogating the physical and chemical characteristics of our medicines which are central to their quality, safety, and performance. AD develops and validates core analytical tests which leverage expertise rooted in various spectroscopic, chromatographic, and solid state characterization techniques. This co-op student will develop streamlined workflows for HPLC column screening as a part of method development. This will involve hands-on work with instrumentation, sample preparation, data analysis, and troubleshooting. These workflows will improve the efficiency of the method development process and provide access to a walk-up screening system for wider department use.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Chemistry, Biology, or a similar scientific field.
  • Have completed an Analytical Chemistry or comparable course
  • Possessing prior hands-on lab experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to think critically
  • Highly motivated and demonstrated excellent work ethic
  • Experience in operating laboratory instrumentation; LC or LC-MS is a plus
  • Capacity to work full-time onsite in Boston, MA
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
  • You must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before December 2026
  • You must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from July – December 2026

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain high pressure/performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) instrumentation
  • Evaluate different method performance across different columns
  • Prepare various solutions and samples for analysis
  • Process LC data
  • Interpret processed data to evaluate method condition
  • Present internship work via a poster or talk
