About The Position

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies are seeking a talented and driven engineer to join the Systems Test & Integration department in their chassis dynamometer lab. The Vehicle Test Automation Engineer will play a key role in developing and integrating systems to test vehicle software, and will be responsible for supporting the efficiency of daily test operations and ensuring quality of results. This position requires collaboration with other internal teams at Rivian, has a passion to continually improve and advance our testing capabilities. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or greater) in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related field
  • 1-2+ years of experience testing complex systems (automotive preferred) with a foundational understanding of EV platforms and vehicle software architecture
  • Familiarity with CAN/LIN networks, wiring schematics, and the typical sensors or data acquisition systems used in automotive testing.
  • Proficient in data analysis and basic Python coding, with a focus on using AI tooling to increase operational efficiency.
  • Knowledge of basic controls theory (open/closed-loop, PID tuning, signal filters) and basic familiarity with chassis or engine dynamometer operating principles.
  • Ability to apply creative and critical thinking to solve problems and deliver exceptional results in a team environment. Excellent communication skills are a must.
  • Flexibility to commute to other nearby Rivian facilities in the SoCal area on occasion (5 - 10% of the time)

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of vehicle-level software validation testing on chassis dynamometers across several vehicle platforms
  • Lead the development and integration of new test hardware, software, test scripts, & sensors to unlock additional automated testing capabilities
  • Define additional test cases to be automated using our hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) equipment and document outlined procedures in Jama
  • Identify and advocate for process improvements that will lead to increased operational efficiency
  • Report on recurring issues, while actively engaging with relevant internal and/or external parties to drive the issue to resolution
  • Perform data analysis to diagnose test failures and propose robust solutions
  • Troubleshoot software/electrical issues with test equipment and test vehicles
  • Prioritize efforts to prepare the test automation platform for upcoming changes on the development roadmap
