We are currently seeking a Vehicle Mechanical Engineer with a fundamental interest and knowledge base in the automotive field for our Vehicle Engineering Practice and Test Engineering Center in Phoenix, AZ. In this role, you will work as part of an an accident reconstruction and testing team supporting technical analyses of transportation accidents, mechanical failure evaluations, and assessments of vehicle safety systems including restraints and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). Field activities include documenting the accident site and vehicles through a variety of techniques including photogrammetry, 3D scanning, and drone technology, and the preservation of collision data from vehicle electronic modules. You should be hands-on with the ability to support fieldwork and testing, have excellent communication skills, and be motivated to advance professionally and ultimately develop and grow their consulting practice within Exponent.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • P.E. license or the willingness to obtain a P.E. license
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • Advanced knowledge of dynamics and mechanical design experience in vehicle dynamics and/or crashworthiness preferred
  • Interest in automotive systems such as vehicle communication networks, chassis systems, or Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS)
  • Attention to detail and dedication to quality and accuracy
  • Experience with CAD software, and analytical and simulation tools desired
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Clear written communication and technical writing skills
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to synthesize and present technical information

Responsibilities

  • Accident Reconstruction
  • Technical analysis of transportation accidents involving heavy trucks and passenger vehicles
  • Fieldwork including inspections of accident site and vehicles
  • Field and laboratory evaluations including full-scale vehicle and component testing
  • Preparing written technical reports and presenting findings to diverse audiences

  • At the Associate and Senior Associate level, total compensation includes base salary, bi-weekly bonuses for high-intensity efforts, annual bonus and 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.
