About The Position

The Vehicle Mechanic performs general maintenance on all College vehicles (approximately 97) and equipment (approximately 170) as needed, including tire repair and vehicle appearance; Conducts A, B & C preventative maintenance inspections as described in the maintenance program in a timely and professional manner, in accordance with Principia and industry standards. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least five years of experience in the mechanics trade.
  • Must be willing to accept further training.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs., push, pull and reach overhead.
  • Must be capable of working indoors and outdoors throughout the year.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics & equipment.
  • Working knowledge of tractors, backhoe, bobcat & equipment.
  • Working knowledge of electrical components.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL License preferred

Responsibilities

  • Check and maintain fleet vehicles daily.
  • Keep Supervisor informed of individual job progress and needs.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of vehicles, equipment, and standards.
  • Report to Mechanic Supervisor for parts needs.
  • Perform equipment maintenance inside/outside shop area.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on all vehicles and equipment in accordance with A, B & C Preventative Maintenance guidelines.
  • Wash and clean interior and exterior of vehicles as required.
  • Clean shop area for safety and appearance.
  • Perform all tasks assigned in a positive, professional and safe manner.
  • Keeping vehicles and equipment running during snow removal efforts.
  • Understand and comply with safe use of shop equipment and procedures.
  • Work with and supervise student workers in shop.
  • Requires versatility and ability to work in other areas and in harmony with others.
