About The Position

Greiner Industries is seeking a skilled Vehicle Maintenance Mechanic (Diesel) to support the maintenance and reliability of our fleet, including trucks, trailers, mobile cranes, and forklifts. In this role, you will perform preventative maintenance, diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, complete inspections, and execute timely repairs to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. You’ll work both independently and with a team, using your technical expertise to minimize downtime while maintaining high standards for safety, accuracy, and quality.

Requirements

  • Computer: Beginner/Intermediate level with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, OneDrive) and Email.
  • Performing work with drawings, blueprints, schematics.
  • Interpretation of Technical Data: Ability to read and understand detailed drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Spatial Visualization: Mentally converting 2D plans, elevations, and sections into a 3D structure.
  • Symbol and Abbreviation Knowledge: Familiarity with industry-standard notations for vehicle mechanical maintenance
  • Measurement and Math Proficiency: Ability to calculate dimensions, scale, and material requirements.
  • Understanding Orthographic Projection: Interpreting top, side, and front views to understand component relationships.
  • Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an automotive mechanical role
  • Diesel Mechanical experience

  • Vocational/Trade School Degree or completed apprenticeship with trade certification (preferred)
  • Inspection Certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance (PMs) on company vehicles, trailers, mobile cranes, forklifts, and diesel-powered equipment, including oil changes, lubrication, filter replacements, and fluid checks
  • Conduct thorough inspections of brake systems, steering components, suspensions, hydraulics, and safety equipment to ensure proper operation and DOT compliance
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools, software, and test equipment; interpret fault codes and system data to identify root causes
  • Perform repairs and component replacements on engines, transmissions, drivetrains, electrical systems, and auxiliary equipment
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines and related systems, including fuel, emissions, cooling, and air systems
  • Complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on fleet equipment to minimize downtime and maintain operational readiness
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment such as lifts, hoists, jacks, and welding equipment to complete repairs
  • Inspect, test, and verify repairs by operating equipment and monitoring performance, ensuring all systems function properly before returning to service
  • Read and interpret work orders, technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints to determine proper repair procedures
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs for all fleet assets
  • Support maintenance and repair of trailers, material handling equipment (forklifts), and mobile cranes, including structural and mechanical components
  • Perform basic fabrication and welding as needed for repairs and modifications
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a clean and organized work environment
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment in the field or yard, including emergency repairs when required
  • Continuously monitor equipment condition and proactively identify potential issues to prevent failures and extend asset life
  • Collaborate with operations and management teams to prioritize repairs and improve fleet reliability
  • Stay current with evolving diesel technology, diagnostic software, and emissions systems
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Adhere to federal, state and local laws.
  • Perform work safely, maintain a clean and organized work area, comply with and follow company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with co-workers, management, customers, vendors and others in a courteous, respectful and professional manner.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
