The Vehicle Maintenance Lead Technician at Denver Transit Operators (DTO) plays a crucial role in the Vehicle Maintenance Department, combining the responsibilities of a highly skilled technician with those of a floor supervisor. This position is not just about overseeing the team; it involves actively participating in the maintenance and repair of the commuter rail services fleet. The Lead Technician is expected to spend the majority of their time on the shop floor, assigning duties to Vehicle Maintenance Technicians and assisting them with their tasks. This hands-on approach ensures that the team operates efficiently and safely while maintaining high standards of quality in their work. In this role, the Lead Technician must possess a deep understanding of the various subsystems of DTO's fleet of Electric Multiple Units (EMUs), including brakes, propulsion, and advanced train control systems. They are responsible for troubleshooting and repairing these systems, utilizing various test equipment and adhering to approved procedures. The Lead Technician must also be adept at accessing training materials, maintenance manuals, and repair procedures to instruct their team effectively. Leadership is a key component of this position, as the Lead Technician is expected to coach and mentor their team, ensuring that safety and quality are prioritized in all operations. The Lead Technician will receive assignments from the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor and will be responsible for distributing tasks among their team throughout the shift. This role is safety-sensitive, adhering to the regulations set forth by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and the company's Drug & Alcohol policy.
