About The Position
This position will function as a VERT II (Vehicle/ Equipment Repair Technician Level II) within the Newport Equipment Shop in Carteret County. Employees perform a range of progressively responsible tasks involving service, repair, rebuilding and diagnosis of mechanical systems of gasoline/diesel powered automotive, heavy equipment as well as power tools. Employees may perform mechanical work at various levels. Work assignments vary in complexity depending on the type of mechanical system. Must be able to perform skilled mechanic work including but not limited to the following systems: Preventive maintenance, brakes (air and hydraulic), steering; tires and tubes; wheels, rims, and hubs; transmission (auto and manual); charging system; cranking system; ignition system; lighting system; cooling system; exhaust system; fuel system; power unit, hydraulics; air conditioning; instruments and gages; and air intake system.
