About The Position

The Irvine Ranch Water District (IRWD) is a progressive agency known for its financial management practices and innovative water programs. The position involves performing preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on light, medium, and heavy vehicles and equipment. The role requires maintaining productivity levels, keeping accurate records, and supplying appropriate tools for the job. The position is supervised by management and does not involve direct supervision of staff. The job may be filled at different levels depending on qualifications and needs of the District.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent required.
  • Three (3) years related hands-on experience at journeyman level on light and medium vehicles and equipment required for Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic.
  • Six (6) years experience at journeyman level on light, medium, heavy commercial vehicles, and construction/specialty equipment required for Senior Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic.
  • Valid Class 'C' California Driver's License.
  • Class 'A' California Driver's License required within one (1) year of hire date.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Series Test highly desirable.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certified Master Automobile Technician is highly desirable for Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Series Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Tests required for Senior Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year lead/supervisory experience preferred for Senior Vehicle/Equipment Mechanic.
  • An associate degree (or higher) in automotive technology may substitute for ASE certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair on light and medium vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and fuel system malfunctions using diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform repairs, replacements, or adjustments of vehicle and equipment systems.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance safety inspections.
  • Service, maintain, and repair hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, fuel, and water systems.
  • Perform welding and fabrication for vehicle and equipment repairs.
  • Coordinate vehicle and equipment repairs with outside repair shops.
  • Read and interpret schematics and technical drawings.
  • Provide new equipment orientation.
  • Maintain fuel dispensing and vehicle cleaning systems.
  • Provide emergency road call service.
  • Ensure the professional appearance of all District vehicles and equipment.
  • Comply with District safety work-related practices.
  • Participate in internal/external committees and organizations.
