About The Position

The position involves performing complex motor vehicle operations work, primarily focused on the transport of passengers. The role requires operating various motor vehicles, including automobiles, vans, and buses, to pick up and transport passengers across different transit services. The employee will work under general supervision, exercising moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment. Responsibilities include preparing and overseeing records and logs related to vehicle operations, conducting vehicle maintenance, making minor repairs, fueling, and detailing vehicles. Safety checks of vehicles are mandatory before departure and at regular intervals. The employee will also maintain records of mileage and other pertinent information, submitting a trip report after each transit service day. Additionally, the role involves securing and protecting passengers, including those with disabilities, monitoring safe loading and unloading practices, and potentially training others in these operations.

Requirements

  • Experience in the operation of motor vehicles on a commercial basis.
  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred.
  • Knowledge of motor vehicle operations, passenger loading and unloading methods, traffic rules and regulations, and Federal and State Department of Transportation regulations.
  • Skill in operating motor vehicles.
  • Ability to obey traffic laws and follow practices in loading and unloading passengers.
  • Ability to prepare accurate records and communicate effectively.
  • Bilingual communication skills in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Operate motor vehicles such as automobiles, vans, and buses to transport passengers.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of records and logs related to vehicle operation.
  • Perform vehicle maintenance, make minor repairs, fuel, and detail vehicles.
  • Conduct safety checks of vehicles before departure and at regular intervals.
  • Maintain records of mileage and other pertinent information, submitting trip reports after service days.
  • Secure and protect passengers, including those on mobility devices.
  • Monitor the safe loading and unloading of passengers.
  • May operate vehicle power wheelchair lifts and ramps.
  • Assist in performing transit work as needed.
  • Train others in vehicle operation and safety procedures.
