Performs complex (journey-level) motor vehicle operations work. Work involves operating motor vehicles used in the transport of passengers. May train others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Operates motor vehicles such as automobiles, vans, and buses to pick up and transport passengers on various modes of transit service. Prepares or oversees the preparation of records and logs pertaining to vehicle operation. Performs vehicle maintenance, makes minor repairs, fuels, and details vehicles. Conducts safety checks of vehicles before departure for service and at regular intervals and after transit service. Maintains a record of mileage and other pertinent information and submits a trip report after transit service day. Secures and protects passengers and ADA passengers on mobility devices. Monitors the safe loading and unloading of passengers. May operate vehicle power wheelchair lifts and ramps. May assist in performing transit work. May train others.
