About The Position

Performs routine (journey-level) motor vehicle operations work. Work involves operating motor vehicles used in the transport of passengers and performing vehicle maintenance. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Operates motor vehicles such as automobiles and vans to pick up and transport passengers for public transportation services. Prepares and maintains the preparation of records and logs related to vehicle operation. Performs vehicle maintenance, makes minor repairs, fuels, and details vehicles. Ensures that vehicle passenger capacity is not exceeded and that passengers use safety restraints. Conducts safety checks of vehicles before departure for service and at regular intervals and after transit service. Maintains a record of mileage and other pertinent information and submits a trip report after transit service day. Secures and protects passengers and ADA passengers on mobility devices. Ensures the safe loading and unloading of passengers. May operate vehicle power wheelchair lifts and ramps. May assist in performing transit work. Experience in the operation of motor vehicles on a commercial basis. Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is generally preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another. Knowledge of: motor vehicle operations, of passenger loading and unloading methods, of traffic rules and regulations, of Federal and State Department of Transportation regulations, and of maintenance of motor vehicles. Skill: in operating motor vehicles. Ability to: obey traffic laws, to follow practices in loading and unloading passengers, to prepare accurate records, to communicate effectively, and to train others. The ability to communicate Bilingual, English and Spanish.
