About The Position

Under general supervision, the 9-Month Vector Control Technician I performs assigned and routine surveillance and control efforts and advises the public regarding vector and nuisance species problems.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: safe and legal vehicle operation and standard safety practices.
  • Ability to: learn, understand and perform the duties and responsibilities of the 9-Month Vector Control Technician I position including the mechanics, general principals and techniques of mosquito and related vector control, including the proper use of pesticides and safety precautions; work independently and responsibly with minimum supervision; operate computers, mobile devices and related software applications including graphing and mapping; safely operate a motor vehicle and standard district equipment related to vector control work; understand and follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective, cooperative relations with co-workers, supervisors and the general public; communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; read and write at a level required for successful job performance.
  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Possession of a valid California Driver license and driving record acceptable to CVMVCD insurance carrier; must possess, or pass within a period of one year, exams for State Vector Control Certifications in all four categories (Public Pesticide Application and Safety, Mosquito Biology and Control, Vertebrate Vector Control, and Terrestrial Invertebrate Vector Control).
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, and background check.

Nice To Haves

  • one (1) year or more fulltime experience as a Vector Control Technician desirable, but not required.
  • Other relevant knowledge and abilities may be considered in-lieu, or in addition to, the foregoing.

Responsibilities

  • Performs surveillance and control of mosquitoes and other vector and nuisance species within assigned zone or other areas as assigned.
  • Conducts morning/evening adult mosquito control efforts, when scheduled.
  • Uses appropriate chemical control products, or biological control agents according to label recommendation and environmental requirements.
  • Operates motorized vehicles including a truck, all-terrain and other vehicles, and motorized and hand powered equipment.
  • Uses Mobile application to accurately document all surveillance and control efforts.
  • Using Mobile application suggest necessary revisions of operational maps within the assigned zone that are relevant to control operations
  • Advises the public regarding vector problems, the need for vector control and source reduction, and reports conditions needing attention and action to field supervisors.
  • Follows safety policies by using proper safety equipment and operates equipment in a safe manner
  • Keeps District buildings, vehicles and equipment clean and in an orderly condition, and performs simple building and equipment repairs.
  • Performs routine maintenance and reports deficiencies in equipment and problems to supervisor.
  • Attends safety and technical training sessions and completes learning assignments in vector control.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
  • Performs other related work as required.
