About The Position

As a VDC Project Manager, you will lead the development, coordination, and management of virtual design and construction (VDC) efforts for complex mechanical systems. This role involves preparing and maintaining detailed design drawings, schematics, and specifications using advanced CAD/CAE software. You will collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and project teams to resolve design challenges and produce high-precision 2D and 3D models of parts and assemblies. Responsibilities also include establishing and maintaining drafting standards and procedures, managing project documentation, and recommending CAD/CAE hardware and software enhancements to support evolving project needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a VDC Designer in a related field.
  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Construction Science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of current design software such as AutoDesk.
  • Working knowledge of drawing production and standard construction techniques and principles.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, delegate, and control the work process.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction and fabrication drawings using AutoCAD and Revit systems for large-scale commercial and industrial projects.
  • Drive Agile/Scrum processes as the project owner to ensure project success.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to VDC Designers and Interns, ensuring efficient workload management and resource coordination.
  • Conduct Performance and Development Reviews for team members.
  • Provide input on long-range planning trade coordination in terms of capabilities, manpower, budgets, and objectives.
  • Deliver on-site support for field personnel and interface with other team leaders and project managers.
  • Coordinate overall schedules, including BIM logs, with department managers and project managers.
  • Ensure optimization of the model to drive DFMA.
  • Maximize prefabrication opportunities that leverage off-site manufacturing.
  • Participate in Handover/BIM kickoff meetings to understand project scope, budget, and timeline.
  • Collect and redistribute specification summaries and help set up job profiles.
  • Schedule and run job reviews biweekly or monthly as needed.
  • Review engineering and contractual documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate draft construction drawings with other trades to ensure routings and clearances.
  • Provide input on department strategies, goals, and objectives.
  • Facilitate training on new processes and software.
  • Make final checks and reviews of trade drawings prior to fabrication release.
  • Provide completed construction drawings to the shop for parts manufacturing.
  • Review work from coordinators for timely completion and drawing quality.
  • Monitor work in progress to ensure compliance with department standards.
  • Manage expectations of the field team and project team for deliverables.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff.
  • Ensure the team is updated with current contract documents and models.
  • Review contractual documents for conflicts with architectural and structural documents.
  • Manage document control during the detailing process and interpret discrepancies.
  • Monitor cost and schedule throughout the project.
  • Interpret complex Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Perform other duties as required.
