About The Position

As a VDC Data Technician, you will leverage various VDC Technologies, BIM Models, and their associated data to build and maintain interactive reports, dashboards and visualizations using Microsoft Power BI in a support role to the Gray site and project management teams. This role will work with and condition projects’ BIM models to aid the site and project management teams with their progress tracking workflow throughout each project’s lifecycle. Data produced from this workflow will be visualized by the VDC Data Technician in project-specific Microsoft Power BI reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following disciplines preferred, but not required: Data Science/Business Analytics, Construction Management, or a related AES field, or a degree from a Technical College and 0-5 years practical experience in the AEC industry.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office suite is required.
  • Must be physically present in the Lexington, KY office.
  • Our Projects are nationwide. 5 - 10% Travel may be required.

Nice To Haves

  • A basic familiarity with data analytics tools such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau is desired but not required.
  • A basic familiarity with the Autodesk design suite of software (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Assemble Systems) is desired but not required.
  • Any proficiency in coding languages such as Python, or proficiency with SQL or DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) is desired, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • The primary role of the VDC Data Technician includes leveraging a combination of technologies to enable our project management and site teams to accurately track work in place during the construction process.
  • BIM (Building Information Models) and their metadata will be federated, and specific elements will be divided into realistic, trackable segments by the VDC Data Technician.
  • The models will be conditioned with relevant data (including but not limited to, schedule & sequencing data) to provide a 4D progress tracking workflow for Gray project execution.
  • Models will be kept up-to date as new document releases are made available, ensuring alignment between the BIM models and the projects’ contract documents.
  • The subsequent tracking data is visualized in Microsoft Power BI in the form of interactive reports.
  • The VDC Data Technician will create and maintain these Power BI reports for each project to which they are assigned, as well as help manage the hub that organizes all models and data within the progress tracking workflow.
  • They will work closely with the Gray site and project management teams to establish and implement progress tracking protocols.
  • The VDC Data Technician may also be tasked with modeling elements in Autodesk Revit that may not exist in current design models (scope gap), to then be used in the 4D progress tracking workflow.
  • The VDC Data Technician will travel to job sites to provide on-location workflow/software training to Gray site personnel on an as-needed basis.
  • Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned as deemed necessary by VDC Data Team management.
  • The VDC Data Technician role is a key position in the VDC group, focused on producing real-time tracking and productivity data and insights throughout the lifecycle of multiple projects.
  • Reports will be shared with Gray project stakeholders and will be used to inform Gray teams on various metrics to reduce reporting lag and aid in project risk mitigation.
  • Upon completion of a project, the historical data may be used for future estimating and analytical purposes.
  • The VDC Data Technician works as a part of Gray teams, occasionally interacting with estimators, architects/engineers, as well as the VDC Coordination Team to facilitate collaboration and communication from preconstruction through the execution phase of their respective projects.
