About The Position

Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. We inspire guests of all ages to connect with the significance of space exploration as incredible feats of human spaceflight continue to bring joy and wonder to the world. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate. The Vault Cashier provides critical cash-handling and control support to the daily operations of Space Center Houston. This role is responsible for safeguarding cash assets, maintaining accurate financial controls, and supporting front-line guest services and ticketing operations through timely and precise cash and inventory management.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in cash handling, vault operations, or a related financial role.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Proficiency with a ten-key adding machine and basic financial tools.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain attention to detail, and perform effectively under pressure.
  • Employment subject to successful completion of a background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Balance and reconcile the cash vault on a daily basis, ensuring accuracy and adherence to established cash control procedures.
  • Prepare and process daily cash deposits through armored courier services, maintaining proper documentation and chain-of-custody standards.
  • Issue and collect cash tills for Guest Services team members in cash-handling roles, including ticket sellers, toll plaza hosts, and retail/photo hosts.
  • Maintain adequate cash levels in the vault to support daily operations, forecasting needs based on attendance and operational demands.
  • Monitor, track, and maintain ticket stock levels to ensure uninterrupted guest service operations.
  • Manage ticket inventory for Group Sales and Education departments, ensuring accurate issuance, tracking, and reconciliation.
  • Identify and report discrepancies, shortages, or overages promptly and work collaboratively with Finance leadership to resolve issues.
  • Follow all internal controls, security procedures, and audit requirements related to cash handling and inventory management.
  • Maintain organized and accurate records in support of audits, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned to support the efficient and secure operation of Space Center Houston.
