About The Position

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Work Shift: Days/Evenings (United States of America) Location: Position will be primarily located at Berkeley Hospital in Summerville, SC but will have regular responsibilities at the Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in Charleston, SC, the Roper Hospital location in Charleston, SC and at the Mount Pleasant Hospital in Mount Pleasant, SC. Shift: Between 7:30am-6:00pm depending on the location and patient schedule. Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position The Vascular Technologist performs diagnostic, non-invasive, vascular exams on patients using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to evaluate the Cerebrovascular, Peripheral arterial, and Peripheral venous systems. Job may also include Abdominal Vascular evaluation. On-Call is required.

Requirements

• Credentialed in vascular technology by one of the following organizations preferred at time of hire, required within 1 year: Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS), or Vascular Sonographer by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) (required)
• BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
• Associate's degree in an applied health science field with concentration in cardiovascular technology, ultrasonography or other related study. (preferred)
• One year of experience as vascular technologist (preferred)

Responsibilities

• Performs high quality diagnostic vascular laboratory examinations using ultrasound and physiologic testing equipment to evaluate the cerebrovascular, peripheral arterial, peripheral venous systems and adheres to exam protocols except when deviation is clinically necessary.
• Prepares patients for procedures, including explaining the procedure and providing instructions in order to obtain the desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize patient anxiety.
• Contacts referring physician (or other appropriate medical personnel) for clarification prior to performing an exam if there is a suspicion that the exam order is incorrect.
• Utilizes the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter preliminary reporting, and document any critical findings in accordance with department policy.
• Completes assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation.
• Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the Mission and Values of the organization and adheres to the standards and policies set forth by the Corporate responsibility program, including the duty to comply with applicable laws and regulations, and reporting to Manager (or Corporate Responsibility line) any suspected unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful acts of practice.
• Adheres to all standards and policies regarding safety initiatives, infection control policies, and protecting patient confidentiality.
• Demonstrate ability to perform non-invasive vascular exams at the level of proficiency.
• Demonstrate knowledge of vascular anatomy, exam procedures, interpretation criteria, and correlation of vascular lab exam results with other hospital procedures.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
