About The Position

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Cardiac Testing Manager, the Vascular Technologist performs and interprets physiological and ultrasound evaluations of the venous, arterial, and cerebrovascular circulation. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs non-invasive vascular testing to include duplex scanning and color flow imaging of the upper and lower extremities (venous and arterial) and extracranial cerebrovascular and abdominal vessels (aorta, renal artery, kidney, mesenteric arteries and liver). Performs physiological arterial testing of the upper and lower extremities utilizing volume plethysmography along with segmental pressures and Doppler waveforms. Explains vascular procedures to patients and families. Provides safety and comfort in accordance with the prescribed standards. Ensures that patient, practice physician, and referring physician expectations for technically superior cardiac testing are met. Communicates effectively with referring and ordering clinicians. Follows imaging protocols of the CVI, which are in accordance with the standards of The Miriam Hospital. Assists the Cardiac Testing Manager with maintaining ICAVL accreditation and with quality assurance/quality improvement activities. Maintains expertise in the professional discipline by participating in education-related professional activities and affiliations. Maintains safety and environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies and procedures. Assists with cleaning and maintaining vascular lab equipment.

Requirements

  • BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Completion of a CAAEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accredited ultrasound program with concentration in Vascular Ultrasound.
  • Certification by American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or registry eligible.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to adult and geriatric patients with consideration of human developmental stages and respect for cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • EXPERIENCE: One-year full-time clinical experience in Vascular Ultrasound.
  • Healthcare environment such as physicians’ medical office practice and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
  • Works with medical office equipment and has direct patient contact.
  • Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including use safety equipment and protective clothing.
  • Walks and stands intermittently throughout the day.
  • May be exposed to electrical and energy hazards.
  • May lift and position patients, and lift supplies up to 50 pounds.
