About The Position

A Registered Vascular Sonographer is responsible for performing a variety of non-invasive vascular procedures, including Extracranial Cerebrovascular Duplex, Upper and Lower Extremity Venous Duplex, Upper and Lower Extremity Arterial Duplex, Lower and Upper Extremity Physiologic Arterial Studies (TOS, Cold), Bypass Graft Surveillance, Dialysis Access Duplex Evaluation, Upper and Lower Extremity Vein Mapping, Abdominal Aorto-iliac Duplex, Mesenteric Duplex, Renal Duplex, and Transcranial Doppler (non-imaging). The role involves preparing the daily workload, demonstrating good communication skills, and possessing knowledge of computers. The sonographer must follow established lab protocols, participate in ongoing Quality Assurance, and contribute to ongoing research projects. Participation in a rolling after-hours emergency call schedule is also required. The employee must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to perform comprehensive non-invasive cardiovascular studies for patients of all ages seen in the Vascular Lab at Erlanger Medical Center. This includes the ability to perform diagnostic procedures as ordered, assess the need for additional information based on the patient's condition, and complete accurate measurements and procedure worksheets for physician interpretation. The position requires effective and professional interaction with physicians, nursing units, and patients. The individual is expected to continuously increase their understanding and knowledge in their specialty area, disease processes, and evolving new procedures. They must also demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles across the life span, assess patient data reflective of their status, and interpret information to identify age-specific needs, providing care as described in unit policies and procedures. This is evaluated through direct supervisor observation, skills review labs, and/or self-assessment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP or CMA approved school of ultrasound or vascular technology education program and considered registry eligible by the ARDMS
  • Medical and/or hospital clinical experience
  • ARDMS Registered, RVT
  • BLS prior to going to the unit/department and maintained going forward

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Vascular Technologist through the ARDMS
  • Registered Vascular Technologist with one year previous experience in medical and/or hospital clinical setting
  • Basic computer experience demonstrated by either 1 to 2 years work experience or college level courses
