About The Position

Sonographers/Technologists must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. Sonographers/Technologists are the primary liaison between patients, licensed independent practitioners, and other members of the support team. Sonographers/Technologists must remain sensitive to the physical and emotional needs of the patient through good communication, assessment, monitoring, and care skills. Participation in quality improvement processes and continuous assessment of performance is expected. The Vascular Sonographer performs the daily routine and diagnostic procedures as ordered by the Physician and assists during vein procedures. Consistently produce vascular scans of optimal diagnostic quality on patients. Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in Vascular Sonography exams to include: 2D scans, Duplex imaging, AnkleBrachial Index (ABI), and Doppler studies. Performs measurements and calculations according to protocol; provides a written or oral summary of preliminary findings, report abnormal findings (if immediate attention is indicated) to the interpreting Radiologist. Applies appropriate patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. Is responsible for the safety and well-being of all patients in the department. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with the patient(s) and health care team. Must be dependable, accountable, and cooperative. Follows all established Ultrasound, Radiology and Hospital Policies and Procedures and is proficient in exams both within and outside of the Department. Conduct basic equipment maintenance, quality control measures, and other administrative, technical, or supervisory tasks as might be required. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum two years of experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
  • RVT (ARDMS), RVS (CCI), or RT(VS) (ARRT), Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA)
  • RDMS (AB, OB/GYN) or RT(S) is acceptable, however, Sonographer must obtain Vascular registry within 12 months of date of hire.
  • 4-6 years experience
  • Certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers as a Registered Vascular Technologist (ARDMS RVT) or by Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI RVS) is required prior to being hired.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required
  • Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, and working in confined spaces or elevated areas.
  • Must be able to bend, twist, squat, kneel (infrequently), and reach in all directions, including overhead.
  • Requires fine and gross motor skills, including pinching, grasping, manipulation, and repetitive motions with hands, wrists, elbows, and shoulders.
  • Ability to maintain balance and coordination using both lower extremities.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted (infrequently), including lifting/lowering from floor to overhead.
  • Requires exerting up to 50 lbs. of force (e.g., assisting patients, pushing wheelchairs/stretchers).
  • Must tolerate working indoors and occasionally outdoors in temperature extremes.
  • Visual requirements include 20/40 corrected vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and color discrimination.
  • Must maintain hearing acuity (with correction) and tactile sensory function.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, work rotating shifts and overtime, and function in a latex-safe environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred Associate Degree from a two-year allied health education program that is patient care related and is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). (Allied health occupations include, but are not limited to, diagnostic medical sonographer, radiologic technologist, respiratory therapist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, and registered nurse.)
  • 2-4 years of experience in Vascular Sonography desire
  • Graduation from an accredited Vascular Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or Ultrasonography program is preferred.
