About The Position

The Vascular Sonographer Educator is responsible for the development, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of vascular ultrasound education programs to ensure clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and accreditation readiness. This role provides educational leadership and hands-on instruction to vascular sonographers, trainees, and interdisciplinary staff while supporting quality improvement, competency assessment and evidence-based practice. This position is intended to supervise, coordinate and maintain a high-quality vascular ultrasound teaching program across all OhioHealth campuses. Requirements

  • Associate's Degree: Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • Registered by ARDMS or CCI RVT or RVS registration
  • Knowledge of IAC vascular testing accreditation standards and quality requirements
  • 5-10 years’ experience in designated clinical area
  • Experience with competency assessment, orientation and continuing education
  • Strong communication, coaching and facilitation skills
  • Experience with quality assurance, peer review and performance improvement initiatives

Responsibilities

  • Integrates principles of adult learning theory, organizational development, change management, and quality management into educational offerings.
  • Update and maintain the Vascular Ultrasound education and training program for new and existing sonographers (and other clinical associates as needed).
  • Applies educational processes including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to program development and management, including onboarding, orientation, and ongoing competency validation.
  • Oversee and provide hands-on instruction and guidance for all vascular ultrasound examinations, including arterial, venous, cerebrovascular, abdominal vascular, and physiologic studies by training and supervising sonographers and trainees in proper scanning techniques, protocol adherence, image optimization, hemodynamic principles, and recognition of normal anatomy and pathology.
  • Plans, conducts, and evaluates educational programs designed to achieve desired levels of competence, critical thinking, and clinical performance.
  • Deliver didactic and technical education covering multiple aspects of vascular ultrasound.
  • Collaborate with System Technical Directors, Lead Sonographers, Medical Directors, Quality Leaders, and other educators to develop and deliver educational activities that support standardized practice, including hands-on clinical instruction, in-services and didactic education in vascular ultrasound protocols and standardized interpretation for sonographers, physicians and staff.
  • Participates, analyzes and evaluates educational programs and activities for effectiveness and designs targeted education to address identified gaps in performance, quality, or compliance.
  • Manages continuing education activities through ARDMS subscription.
  • Maintains compliance for IAC tracking CME credits for vascular ultrasound for sonographers and interpreting physicians.
  • Supports system technical director maintaining IAC Vascular Testing accreditation requirements.
  • Assists with quality assurance activities, image review, and technical performance improvement.
  • Ensures education aligns with regulatory, accreditation, and certification standards.
  • Participates in audit preparation, corrective action planning, and documentation support.
  • Provides education related to new equipment, protocols, software, or policy changes.
  • Serves as a clinical and educational resource to sonographers and leadership.
  • Facilitates change management through effective communication, coaching and staff engagement.
  • Participates in committees, task forces, and strategic initiatives.
  • Supports integration of research and evidence-based practice into vascular ultrasound education.
  • Reviews current literature and incorporates findings into educational content.
  • Leads or supports performance improvement and practice advancement initiatives.
  • Anticipates trends impacting vascular ultrasound practice and education.
  • Focus on safety, quality and efficiency in performing job duties.
