Job Summary and Qualifications This position is responsible for performing a variety of treatments, procedures and administering a variety of medications. Assessment of patients for educational, physiological, psychosocial, comfort and safety needs are also required. Planning and coordinating this care is an integral function of this position. Communication with other associates, other departments, physicians and others as necessary is essential. Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center (EIRMC) is a full-service hospital with 318+ patient beds. Our hospital is the largest medical facility in the region. We serve southeast Idaho, western Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park, and parts of Montana. Our facility has an ER, a Level II Trauma Center, a Level 1 ICU (one of two in Idaho), and the only Burn Center in the state of Idaho. We have the region's only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for critically ill children. Our 74-bed Behavioral Health Center offers inpatient and outpatient mental health care for adolescents and adults. Requirements

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 90 days of employment start date
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 7 days of employment start date
  • (RN) Registered Nurse
  • Associate Degree, or Bachelors Degree

Responsibilities

  • Performing early vascular access to make recommendations for IV access (using the national Standards of Practice set by the Infusion Nursing Society)
  • Inserting peripheral IV lines in patients with difficult vein access after unsuccessful attempts by nursing staff or if staff believes the likelihood of successful line placement is low and implementation of chain of command
  • Inserting PICC lines at the patient's bedside under the direction of the nursing supervisor and based upon the EIRMC's Hospital IV infusion therapy policy.
  • Access and maintenance of ports as needed.
  • Troubleshooting obstructed central line catheters
  • Monitoring all PICC lines daily for prevention of line infection
  • Gathering and analyzing surveillance data for Quality and Infection Control
  • Providing infusion consultation services to enhance the intravenous skills of the nursing staff through bedside teaching for peripheral IV insertion, central line troubleshooting, and consultation on any infusion therapy questions; patients, medical staff and nursing staff may contact the VAT at any time with vascular access questions.
  • Teaching patients and cases managers how to care for an IV line once the patient returns home
  • Communicating and consulting with home health agencies regarding patients with IVs • Assists with quality assurance, process improvement and other department projects necessary to departments function.
