Service Job Summary: The Vascular Access Specialty Nurse (VASN) will provide vascular access consultation and support to inpatients, outpatients, and various members of the healthcare team (HCT). Working with members of the HCT, the VASN will provide a specialized evaluation of the vasculature and vascular access needs to provide the appropriate access device to meet the patient’s medical needs and preserve their vasculature. The service is beneficial to the organization to ensure patients have the appropriate access device to deliver the medications required to improve the patient’s health. . SHIFT: The person hired into this role will work a 3:2 schedule so three 12 hour shifts one week and two 12-hour shifts the following week for a total of 60 hours per bi-weekly pay period. The shift will be 6:45am - 7:15pm. The Vascular Access Specialty Nurse inserts, maintains, and removes long-term IV catheters. The RN in this role will use ultrasound guidance to help insert the PICC line into a vein in the upper arm.
