The VAS Picker/Packer located in Rensselaer, IN, processes all Value-Added Services (VAS) requirements accurately and ensures all related documentation for outbound freight loads complies with records retention policies. This role supports shipping operations by coordinating paperwork, carrier communication, and shipment requirements while maintaining compliance with DOT, HAZMAT, and environmental standards. This role is for the first shift, with the hours of 5:30 am - 2:00 pm unless there is overtime, which requires the hours to be 3:30 am - 2:00 pm.

Requirements

  • Must meet legal minimum age requirement and be authorized to work in the United States.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and perform basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs independently and team lifting up to 150 lbs.
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to use Microsoft Office and standard office equipment.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
  • Knowledge of shipping and logistics processes, including bills of lading and manifests.
  • Familiarity with DOT, HAZMAT, and international shipping requirements.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and positively influence others.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate VAS requirements and shipment needs across both 1st and 2nd shifts.
  • Collaborate with the Shipping Office and Supervisors to prepare bills of lading, manifests, and truck orders.
  • Communicate with carrier drivers to complete paperwork and ship loads.
  • Partner with CSRs and the Shipping Office to arrange carrier pick-up and delivery via fax, email, or phone.
  • Reprint and adjust pick lists as needed.
  • Locate backup inventory positions using WMS.
  • Pick, pack, load, and ship orders within the department as needed.
  • Process pack detail for various products and orders.
  • Maintain accurate filing of all shipping-related documents (e.g., BOLs, manifests).
  • Run and distribute daily reports to staff when required.
  • Create and verify VAS custom documents for domestic and international shipments (e.g., Dangerous Goods, Commercial Invoices).
  • Ensure customer-specific VAS requirements are met for both domestic and international orders.
  • Provide administrative support and perform special projects as assigned.
  • Comply with DOT, HAZMAT, and environmental regulations.
  • Use designated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
