About The Position

ConVal Regional High School is in search of the next head coach to lead our softball program. Candidates should have coaching experience, or advanced playing experience, and a dedication to developing people of character in line with the school's mission and vision. The next coach will be dedicated to helping each student-athlete reach their potential as a player, student, and citizen, while instilling the concepts of community, adaptability, respect, engagement, and safety. The head coach will be responsible for instructing athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her actions, words, and interactions with players, coaches, officials, opponents, families, media members, and others. The head coach is responsible for student safety, practice and game planning and management, and all aspects related to a school program including equipment and uniform management. The head coach, along with the director of athletics, will oversee the assistant and JV coaches. ConVal is a member of the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association (Division 2) and abides by the Association's rules and regulations. All coaches must be certified (or become certified) as required by the NHIAA.

Requirements

Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport.
The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport and, at the same time, must continue to examine new theories and procedures pertinent to the field.
The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training.
Serve as a role model for student athletes.
Responsible for student safety.
Practice and game planning and management.
Equipment and uniform management.
Oversee the assistant and JV coaches.
Implement athletic policies approved by the Conval School Board.
Implement existing system, state and league regulations.
Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff.
Train and inform staff, encourages professional growth by encouraging clinic attendance according to local clinic policy.
Delegate specific duties, supervises implementation and, at season's end, analyzes staff effectiveness and evaluates all assistants.
Maintain discipline, adjusts grievances and works to increase morale and cooperation.
Assist the athletic director in scheduling, providing transportation and requirements for tournament and special sport events.
Assist in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.
Provide documentation to fulfill state and system requirements concerning physical examinations, parental consent and eligibility.
Provide proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment sites.
Advise the athletic director and recommends policy, method or procedural changes.
Serve as a mentor to each athlete to promote the development and demonstration in student athletes the character traits of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.
Give constant attention to a student athlete's grades and conduct.
Provide assistance, guidance and safeguards for each participant.
Provide training rules and any other unique regulations of the sport to each athlete who is considered a participant.
Initiate programs and policies concerning injuries, medical attention and emergencies.
Complete paperwork on all disabling athletic injuries on proper forms and submits to athletic office within 24 hours.
Direct student managers, assistants and statisticians.
Determine discipline, delineates procedures concerning due process when the enforcement of discipline is necessary and contracts parents when a student is dropped or becomes ineligible.
Assist athletes in their college or advanced educational selection.
Participate in the budgeting function with the athletic director by establishing requirements for the next season.
Is accountable for all equipment and collects the cost of any equipment lost or not returned.
Arrange for issuing, storing and reconditioning of equipment and submits annual inventory and current records concerning same.
Properly marks and identifies all equipment before issuing or storing.
Monitor equipment rooms and coaches' offices, authorizes who may enter, issue or requisition equipment.
Permit the athletes to only be in authorized areas of the building at the appropriate times.
Examine locker rooms before and after practices and games, checking on general cleanliness of the facility.
Secure all doors, lights, windows and locks before leaving building if custodians are not on duty.
Instill in each player a respect for equipment and school property, its care and proper use.
Organize parents, coaches, players and guests for preseason meetings.
Promote the sport within the school through recruiting athletes who are not in another sports program and promotes the sport outside the school through news media, little league programs, or in any other feasible manner.
Responsible for the quality, effectiveness and validity of any oral or written release to local media.
Responsible for maintaining good public relations with news media, booster club, parents, officials, volunteers and fans.
Present information to news media concerning schedules, tournaments and results.
