The successful candidate will possess the skills and experience to instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success in track and field. At the same time, the coach must be a positive role model and motivator and instruct and demonstrate behaviors that lead to good sportsmanship, socially acceptable character development, self-discipline, self-confidence, and pride of accomplishment in the student athletes. The head coach is expected to build personal and professional relationships with administration, teachers, coaches, student athletes and parents. The varsity head coach shall encourage student athlete development at the high school, middle school, and youth level by providing proper running, jumping, and throwing instruction, skill development, and strategies. The varsity coach must be knowledgeable and understand coaching and practicing rules and policies governed by the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA).
