About The Position

Salem Public Schools is an urban public school district enrolling nearly 4,000 students in 10 schools. The Varsity Football Coach will be responsible for the varsity program, overseeing the junior varsity program, and coordinating with Salem Youth Programs. This role involves ensuring athlete safety, writing and supervising workouts for various events, being present at all games, and fundraising. The head coach will also coordinate year-round offseason and volunteer summer programs, manage the program's social media presence, and assist student-athletes with the recruitment process for post-high school opportunities. The coach will work closely with the Athletic Director to ensure compliance with all school policies and procedures related to athletic programs.

Requirements

  • Previous coaching/playing experience
  • CPR Certified
  • Heads Up Concussion Certified
  • Experience working with youth athletics and football
  • Ability to meet the expectations and standards of practices as guided by the MIAA, the league and school policies
  • Demonstrate a high degree of energy and a genuine interest in students and their success
  • Experience working with students & families of diverse ethnic backgrounds

Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Athletic Director to ensure all school policies/procedures are being followed as it relates to the athletic programs
  • Develop and encourage sportsmanlike behavior at all times and enforce rules established for maintaining such standards by individual students
  • Responsible for game /practice planning and overseeing offense, defense and special teams
  • Work with the Strength and Conditioning Coach and Athletic Trainer to coordinate in season and off season strength and conditioning programs and rehabilitation programs for injured players
  • Assist student athletes with the college recruitment process
  • Maintain a positive social media presence for the program
  • Work with the Athletic Director, Principal, and teaching and guidance staff to help students maintain eligibility for participation in the sport program
