The Varsity Baseball Coach is responsible for organizing athletes and teaching them the fundamentals of the sport. This role involves training athletes to compete both as a team and individually. The coach must develop and communicate clear goals for the team and individual players throughout tryouts and the season, maintain open communication with students, parents, other coaches, and the Athletic Director, and support student academic expectations and achievements. The coach will also model good sportsmanship, create a safe environment for student-athletes, and connect athletic experiences with life experiences.

  • Develop and communicate clear and specific goals for the team and individual players throughout tryouts and the season.
  • Maintain open and honest communication with students, parents, other coaches, and the Athletic Director.
  • Develop and demonstrate a good knowledge base of best practices specific to their coaching arena.
  • Support and collaborate with coaches in other athletic programs.
  • Model and teach skills necessary to succeed.
  • Support student academic expectations, responsibilities, and achievements.
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of Grand Rapids policies and procedures as it applies to athletics.
  • Promote and enforce the student-athlete code of conduct.
  • Connect athletic experiences with life experiences.
  • Provide an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration among coaches and players.
  • Become an integral part of and develop rapport with the Grand Rapids community including administration, coaches, parents, and students.
  • Model good sportsmanship always.
  • Create and maintain a safe and healthy environment for student athletes.
  • Understand their leadership style and its impact on student-athletes.
  • Wear professional and appropriate game and practice attire.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and clear a criminal background check.
  • Playing experience at the high school or college level and/or coaching experience required.
  • Proof of current First Aid and CPR certifications prior to the first day of coaching.
  • Must provide certificate of completion for online concussion training course from either the Centers for Disease Control or the National Federation of State High School Associations prior to the first day of coaching.
