About The Position

The Varsity Assistant Coach for Football is responsible for assisting the head coach in the development, organization, and implementation of the football program. This role involves providing leadership to football personnel and student athletes while adhering to all relevant rules and regulations. The position requires commitment beyond regular school hours, including weekends and holidays, to ensure the team's preparedness for competition.

Requirements

• Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate and CECP completion or current LHSAA requirements.
• Possess a CDL class B or above with a P and S endorsement free of air brake restrictions.
• Meet all requirements of the Louisiana Department of Education school bus driver component.
• Employment with the Jefferson Parish Public School System as a teacher or administrator.
• Demonstrated expertise and knowledge in basic football fundamentals.
• Professional knowledge of LHSAA and JPPSS rules and regulations for football.
• Certified through USA Football's Heads UP program.
• Expertise in conditioning athletes for the sport.

Nice To Haves

• Previous playing experience in football at the college or university level, or minimum experience at the high school level.
• Previous coaching experience at the junior varsity, junior high/middle school, or other recreation activity level in football.
• Expertise in first aid for the prevention and treatment of football injuries.

Responsibilities

• Assist the head coach in the overall supervision of the football program.
• Help maintain, inventory, and issue all football equipment.
• Promote sportsmanship and good public relations within the school and community.
• Ensure all student athletes have current physical exams and adequate insurance coverage.
• Participate in professional development through workshops and clinics.
• Report rosters, schedules, scores, and eligibility promptly as per Parish and State requirements.
• Communicate and cooperate with the school-based athletic director and administrator in charge of athletics.
• Perform all duties as assigned by the principal or appropriate administrator.
