About The Position

The mission of Creative Digital Minds High School will be to prepare all students to become successful career professionals in the field of Digital Media design, which will be the central Career and Technical Education (CTE) interest area within Creative Digital Minds High School. Creative Digital Minds High School students will “learn by doing” through project-based hands-on activities that replicate the typical working practices of successful graphic design, marketing and advertising firms. In doing so, Creative Digital Minds High School will accomplish two primary goals: to prepare all students for college success, and to develop the essential skills necessary for successful careers in the digital media design industry. The school will be part of the iZone, participating in the iLearnNYC program. A summer planning institute will offer an important opportunity for staff to be involved in developing the school’s culture and instructional program. Additionally, the school will offer such opportunities as: Leading after-school tutoring, extra-curricular activities, and adult learning courses for parents and families Serving on committees and/or leading activities to enrich, enhance, and facilitate the academic and social goals of the Creative Digital Minds High School Advance notice of the dates will be supplied, and those who attend will be compensated according to the terms of the UFT contract. Staff participation in the activities is voluntary, but strongly encouraged, as they are very important to the development of the school.

Requirements

  • New York State certification in the appropriate content area, with satisfactory ratings and attendance

Responsibilities

  • Work within a non-traditional schedule and organizational structure that meets the needs of all students including English Language Learner (ELL) students, students requiring special education services, as well as students experiencing difficulty meeting graduation requirements within four years. (Modifications to schedule are contingent on approval by SBO vote.)
  • Assess student needs based on student performance data and/or academic diagnostic assessments
  • Apply effective teaching strategies based upon student performance data and re-teaching strategies based upon “in the moment” and summative checks for understandings
  • Conduct formative and summative checks for understandings to rapidly determine teaching strategy effectiveness
  • Create a plan for professional growth in collaboration with the Principal and/or Team Leader
  • Serve as a high school advisor. Advisors serve as advocates for a group of students, are the primary and frequent contact for students’ families, aid in the development of an advisory course with an emphasis on the school’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) theme, and guide students throughout significant academic milestones such as a Work Based Learning experience, college application, career planning, etc.
  • Develop and implement CTE themed project-based units of instruction and collaborative project-based learning modules aligned to relevant NY State Standards, Common Core Learning Standards as well as CTE Benchmarks.
  • Use technology to enhance lessons and integrate technology into classroom activities, including but not limited to: Development and effective delivery of a self-paced digital curricula using a variety of delivery formats including, but not limited to, Google Apps for Education, various Learning Management System(s) such as Blackboard, Moodle, or Desire2Learn, or other equivalent vehicles for delivery of digital curricula to students Incorporation of CTE industry-standard software suites including, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Suites, Final Cut Pro, as well as web-based development software with an emphasis on teaching students the skills necessary to be competitive in professional digital media environments
  • Participation and leadership as teachers within the iZone/iLearnNYC community with a focus on developing innovative models of blended learning classroom practices and sharing those effective practices with our wider community
