About The Position

The Nurse Assistant at Camp Paha is responsible for supporting the Nurse in various health-related tasks, including medication administration, first aid, and camper health assessments. This part-time position is essential for ensuring the well-being of campers with disabilities and involves working closely with the administrative team and other staff members. The role requires a commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and adherence to health and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Experience caring for and patience to work with people with disabilities.
  • Background in school, public health, camp nursing, or working with people with disabilities is beneficial.
  • Ability to complete the Colorado Medications Administration Certification (training provided).
  • Must furnish written proof of at least 480 contact hours supervising children (up to age 18).
  • Current First Aid and CPR cards by the start date (training provided).
  • Ability to clear TRAILS Registry prior to the first day of work.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants, parents, and caregivers.
  • Possess leadership and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Nurse during Medication Administration Training.
  • Delegate medication procedures for certain campers to Leadership staff.
  • Tend to all camper injuries and illnesses that occur at camp.
  • Assist in feedings and support campers' personal needs.
  • Perform physical checks of campers for health concerns.
  • Administer medications and treatments according to physician's orders.
  • Maintain accurate records of medications, treatments, and injuries.
  • Discuss health items about campers with counselors and staff.
  • Prepare and maintain first aid kits for emergency use.
  • Attend pre-camp training and regular staff meetings.
  • Provide leadership for other staff as directed by the Administration Team.
  • Support the physical, social, and emotional needs of campers.
  • Participate in off-site field trips as directed by the Nurse or Administration team.
  • Enforce the R.I.S.E. program's 'No Isolated Moments' policy.
  • Follow American Camping Association (ACA) accreditation and Child Care License standards.
  • Plan and implement a health and safety program for Camp Paha.
