The Lakewood Cultural Center is seeking Music Instructors to teach youth and/or adults in group settings. Our ideal instructor is passionate about the positive impact music brings to individuals, self-motivated, and well-organized. A candidate who is proficient in one or more of the following: guitar, ukulele, traditional drum, Native American flute, voice, and mommy/me music appreciation. Shifts will be discussed during the interview process. Occasional evening and weekend workshops and events are required.

  • Instruct, encourage, support, and lead students in classes/workshops that fosters positive self-expression, and builds self-esteem and personal growth.
  • Engage and connect with students, fostering an environment of patience and understanding.
  • Teach and guide students progression and adjust teaching techniques as necessary.
  • Create a fun and welcoming atmosphere for our students.
  • Set up the classroom and return the space to the neat state upon completion of class.
  • Maintain a headcount of where students are at all times.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and report for reorder.
  • Report injuries and complete required forms.
  • Immediately notify supervisor of broken equipment or any unsafe conditions.
  • Attend all required staff/planning meetings.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Ability to work with all ages.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and participants.
  • Ability to develop engaging and inclusive curriculum.
  • Experience leading or assisting with art programs/activities.
  • Experience leading or assisting groups of varying sizes.
  • Ability to motivate and inspire students to thrive in groups and on their own.
  • Good classroom management skills.
  • Understanding of classroom supply safety.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Background check is required.
  • A 2 or 4-year degree in Music Education.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a classroom setting as an instructor or teaching artist may be used in place of a degree.
  • If youth specific, one year of experience teaching children or previous summer camp experience is desired.
  • A valid CPR/AED certificate or in the process completed by the start of employment.

  • Life Insurance Employees are covered for 1.5 times their annual base salary in life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment, up to a maximum of $500,000 (the minimum benefit is $50,000).
  • Pension Our pension fund is a social security replacement, money purchase plan. Mandatory employee contribution is 11% of gross base salary; city contribution is 13% of gross base salary.
  • Sick Leave Full-time employees earn 8 hours per month. Part-time employees earn 6 hours per month.
  • Vacation Full-time employees with less than five years of service earn 8 hours per month. Part-time employees with less than five years of service earn 6 hours per month.
