Requirements

  • Successful completion of a psychological exam, physical exam, and background investigation is required.
  • Negative drug testing prior to employment and subject to random testing during employment.
  • Ability to work varied days and shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Report on time for scheduled shifts and maintain attendance standards.
  • Keep all information confidential, both written and verbal, obtained inside the jail.
  • Book voluntary and involuntary individuals into jail.
  • Research charges on inmates and maintain accurate records.
  • Accept cash and cash equivalents for bonding out of jail or paying court costs.
  • Maintain physical fitness to perform essential job duties.
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations and routine drills.
  • Conduct unannounced detailed physical searches of inmates and jail facilities.
  • Use reasonable force when necessary to ensure safety.
  • Supervise inmate feeding and monitor special dietary needs.
  • Oversee the cleaning of jail housing areas and inmate movement within the facility.
  • Distribute mail and approved items to inmates.
  • Supervise inmate recreational activities and ensure compliance with rules.
  • Remain current on all Sheriff's Office and Jail policies and procedures.
  • Handle volatile situations professionally and effectively.
  • Maintain control and custody of inmates while on duty.
  • Complete all paperwork related to inmate custody and care.
  • Produce legal documents required for daily duties.
  • Conduct security checks and answer phone calls.
