About The Position

The Van Driver position at Union College involves providing transportation for students, staff, and community members to and from college-approved locations while adhering to safety protocols. This is an on-call, temporary position that does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL). The work schedule varies, including shift start and end times, and the number of hours worked per week and weeks per year is also variable. The position reports to the Transportation Manager and requires compliance with safety regulations and effective trip management.

Requirements

  • Two or more years of transportation driving experience.
  • Valid NYS Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to exercise exceptional judgment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to following safety procedures.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Ability to enter and exit the vehicle frequently and assist passengers.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles before each designated route.
  • Report vehicle safety concerns and road hazards to the immediate supervisor.
  • Comply with random drug and alcohol testing requirements.
  • Provide trip information to the dispatcher before each trip.
  • Maintain scheduled times and locations for the 'Trolley Service.'
  • Report all incidents, whether minor or major, to the immediate supervisor.
