About The Position

The Value Optimization Manager position will be a key contributor in executing the STL product uplift growth strategy. They will be involved in the training, oversight and feedback for all individuals whose job is to merchandise trees into logs, with the goal of maximizing value for Weyerhaeuser. This position will be working in the Mid-South Marketing Region, directly reporting to the Mid-South Marketing Region Manager and will primarily interact with Weyerhaeuser Harvest and Transportation Managers, Wood Flow Managers, Harvest Managers and contract loggers working with the region’s field operations. The base office location for this position is Ruston, LA with expectations of travel to support all operations within the AROK & NLAR Regions.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated work experience in cutting, harvesting, or log scaling/sorting operations.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in use of personal computers and related software applications such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn and use our mobile CPI and “merchandizing audit” application/technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in forestry operations and/or marketing; timber procurement, timber cruising, logging, and/or log scaling background preferred.
  • Knowledge of domestic and export log markets; log specifications, sorts, and quality requirements.
  • BS degree in forestry or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Role Modeling Weyerhaeuser’s core values and key behaviors.
  • Champion safety within the Marketing team and across Southern Timberlands operations.
  • Assist all Wood flow and Harvest Managers in the training and monitoring of those that are responsible for merchandizing trees and loading logs to optimize the value of every stem.
  • Organize and conduct employee/operator training as required for maximizing the value from every acre with both contractor and company personnel.
  • The writing, installation and use of electronic cutting cards for various brands of mechanical processors.
  • Produce and distribute log quality and value tracking reports as needed (requires use of “log system”, Windows Excel, and Power BI).
  • Provide constructive feedback while coordinating the correction of any log quality/value optimization issues that may arise.
  • Perform log and tree audits as required and maintain database records.
  • Make regular visits to customer destinations (internal and external) for log quality inspections.
  • Work with destinations to set up educational rollouts for Harvest Managers and contract logging employees who merchandise and load logs.
  • People and leadership skills, including time management, effective decision making, conflict resolution skills, and results oriented.
  • Must be conscientious and detail oriented with good observation, interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral, including speaking/teaching groups).

  • This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $69,396-$123,800 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 5-7% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.
