About The Position

THIS POSITION IS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR UP TO MAY 21ST IS FOR UP TO 22 HOURS PER WEEK MONDAY-THURSDAY 11:15 AM TO 3:45 PM AND FRIDAY 8:15 AM TO 12:15 PM To help plan, organize and implement the VALTS Distance Learning program at our Southern Satellite location in Sidney. This position will help guide and encourage our students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of Alternative Education.

Requirements

  • The VALTS Distance Learning Facilitator must have a high school diploma, preferred associate’s degree or two years of college demonstrating their ability to assist with instruction in reading, writing, and math.
  • Must maintain at all times during employment an unrestricted motor vehicle operator’s license, obtain a school bus permit as required by state and federal laws, and a satisfactory driving record that meets requirements of Board policy.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • In coordination with the VALTS teachers, plan, prepare and deliver lesson instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Instruct and monitor students individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Manage student behavior and discipline in the classroom by establishing and enforcing administration policies, rules and procedures.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, field trips and all other educational settings.
  • Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to assess progress.
  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
  • Organize and label materials and display students’ work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills.
  • Distribute tests and homework assignments and collect them when they are completed.
  • Attend staff meetings, parent meetings and serve on committees, as required.
  • Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
  • Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories and assist students with hardware and software use.
  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Must maintain at all times during employment an unrestricted motor vehicle operator’s license, obtain a school bus permit as required by state and federal laws, and a satisfactory driving record that meets requirements of Board policy.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in appropriate professional activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Director’s designee.
