General Definition: Responsible for attending to Jockeys and to saddle/unsaddle horses at the racetrack. Essential Job Functions: Obtains numbered saddle towel to correspond with horse's Post Position in the race; inserts weight pads in the saddle to meet weight requirements for the race. Obtains specific set of colors/silks from Silks Attendant in the Silks Room corresponding to stable colors. Assists the trainer with saddling the horse in the assigned Stall or in the Paddock. Unsaddles horse after each race and returns riding equipment to storage area. Will abide by all safety requirements as outlined in the Safety Manual or as required by individual departments and/or job functions. Have the trainer bring the horse to the gate in the mornings, continually, until the Head Starter feels the horse has overcome the problem and is taken off the Head Starter's list. Also, working with horses that have some problems while trying to load them into the gate. Must carry out all duties assigned by the Head Starter. Other duties as assigned by management.
