About The Position

The Vaccine Coordinator is responsible for monitoring and managing the inventory, storage, and transport of vaccines within the Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD). This role includes overseeing vaccine administration, ensuring compliance with immunization mandates, and maintaining accurate documentation. The Vaccine Coordinator plays a crucial role in promoting immunization education among students and parents, while also ensuring the safety and efficacy of vaccine handling and administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) required.
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in the State of Michigan.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Registered Nurse.
  • Knowledge of immunization administration and practice, including COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to various DPSCD sites.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and perform the inventory, storage, and transport of all vaccines.
  • Complete weekly and monthly reports and submit to MDHHS/Vaccines for Children's Program.
  • Monitor and perform vaccine administration and documentation into MCIR.
  • Order immunization supplies and maintain balanced inventory.
  • Ensure proper functioning of transport equipment for vaccines.
  • Lead the administration of immunizations at DPSCD sites with assistance from a medical assistant.
  • Ensure all vaccines administered are properly entered into MCIR.
  • Promote compliance with state mandates for immunization compliance.
  • Assist the school MCIR administrator with immunization compliance activities.
  • Monitor the work of the medical assistant in vaccine administration.
  • Provide education to students and parents on the vaccine schedule and post-immunization care.
  • Ensure documentation of all administered vaccines is provided to parents and students.
  • Provide care in urgent/emergent situations related to immunization.
  • Document storage equipment temperatures twice daily and respond to temperature excursions or equipment failures.
  • Remain current with all Vaccine for Children Program trainings and requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in Vaccine for Children Program audits.
  • Assist with the safe transfer of vaccines during emergencies or equipment failures.
  • Train and validate skills of health team members.
