About The Position

AHF Products has a great career opportunity for a Utility operator located at our Sawmill in Norton, WV. Reporting to the Mill Supervisor, you will be responsible for operating key sawmill equipment including the Trim-saw, Edger, Gangsaw, Chipper, and De-barker to ensure efficient and safe processing of logs and lumber

Requirements

  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check, employment verification and drug screening.
  • Positive and Verifiable Work History.
  • P revious Sawmill experience.
  • Experience operating Sawmill equipment such as Trim-saw, Edger, Gangsaw, Chipper, and De-barker.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to communicate, hear, comprehend, and write in English.
  • Frequent exposure to dust.
  • Exposure to noise environment requiring hearing protection.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor key sawmill equipment including the Trim-saw, Edger, Gangsaw, Chipper, and De-barker to ensure efficient and safe processing of logs and lumber.
  • Assist in the setup, calibration, and adjustment of machinery to meet production specifications and optimize material yield.
  • Perform routine checks on equipment to identify malfunctions or needed maintenance, and report issues to the maintenance team.
  • Sort, stack, and transfer processed lumber to designated areas using material handling tools or equipment.
  • Support continuous operation by clearing jams, removing waste material, and maintaining flow between stations.
  • Monitor product quality during processing and remove or report defective material for reprocessing or disposal.
  • Clean and maintain work areas and equipment, ensuring compliance with housekeeping and safety standards.
  • Assist with inventory management, labeling, and preparation of finished lumber for shipment or storage.
  • Provide general labor support across different mill operations as required by production demands.
  • Perform any other work-related task deemed necessary by the mill management.
