About The Position

PURPOSE OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Supervisor-Lakes & Office Operations, performs park maintenance duties including but not limited to maintenance of Fellows Lake Dam, non-structural welding, equipment, three public docks, pavilions, park roads, trail head parking, and playgrounds. Maintains the grounds, facilities, fencing barriers, clearing access for 21 hunting lanes yearly, utilizing pesticides in a safe manner to keep drinking water safe, mowing, trimming, pruning and tree removal of the Water Treatment/Lakes areas of Fellows, McDaniel, and Stockton. Transports and hauls heavy equipment to and from water sites.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Six months' experience using farm-type tractor mowing equipment and operation of commercial chain saws is required.
  • Experience in basic wiring and electricity and the use of janitorial equipment and supplies is required.
  • Must have a valid Missouri CDL, Class B including air brakes and hazardous material endorsement, or: a. The ability to obtain a Missouri Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) within six weeks of employment and b. The ability to obtain a CDL, Class B including air brakes and hazardous material endorsement within six months of employment.
  • This requires approximately 15 hours (total) classroom training and completion of behind-the-wheel training (hours to be determined) as required by City Utilities.
  • Working knowledge of farm-type and lawn equipment, basic wiring and electricity, and janitorial equipment.
  • Ability to work safely and independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to organize assigned work to perform in a timely manner.
  • Ability to perform minor repair/maintenance on industrial and lawn equipment.
  • Ability to maintain inventory of janitorial supplies.
  • Ability to use appropriate janitorial supplies for cleaning.
  • Ability to operate tractor with attachments, riding mowers, and other light groundskeeping equipment.
  • Ability to pull and back a trailer for transporting equipment to location sites.
  • Ability to work courteously with customers and coworkers.
  • Ability to be dependable due to the nature of work.
  • Ability to Effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems. Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations.
  • Maintain adherence to all company policies.
  • Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of job.
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Ability to work within the rated capacity of the Utility’s aerial lifts, ladders, fall restraint devices, and/or other related equipment.
  • Employees must remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times and maintain the ability to respond to changing circumstances in a timely manner.
  • Must be able to work successfully with diverse groups of people.
  • Required to wear uniform clothing provided by City Utilities. Management retains the right to require replacement due to wear or staining.

Nice To Haves

  • Facilities maintenance experience including carpentry and plumbing is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Mows and trims Fellows Lake (including Fellows Lake Dam), McDaniel Lake, Stockton, and multiple remote Water Treatment locations using heavy groundskeeping equipment
  • Trims and prunes plants, shrubs, and trees throughout Fellows Lake, McDaniel Lake, Stockton, and other remote Water Treatment sites as needed. This includes clearing access to 21 deer hunting blinds and their access lanes.
  • Uses pesticides as directed to control weeds, insects, or rodents on designated fence lines, around buildings, and specific park locations in accordance with CU policy.
  • Maintains Fellows Lake Dam to keep pizometers accessible and trimmed and repair holes as needed and/or remove new growth as directed from dam inspections.
  • Cleans and maintains docks property of City Utilities. Makes adjustments to Dock 66 and Courtesy Dock based on water levels and high wind situations.
  • Grades and repairs landscaped areas, gravel trail head parking locations and public gravel roads throughout the park areas of Fellows Lake that are prone to ruts from drainage to help ensure public safety. Grades and repairs driveways at remote Water Treatment sites throughout the utility that are prone to washouts.
  • Clears parking areas and walks of snow and ice utilizing plowing equipment and hand shoveling.
  • Constructs, repairs, and paints a variety of objects, including but not limited to: playground equipment, fences, benches, building, picnic tables, pavilions, graffiti removal, and BBQ grills.
  • Picks up litter and empties trash containers multiple times a week due to increased foot traffic at the parks and from events. Picks up trash inside and outside of remote water treatment sites.
  • Cleans and maintains public and shop restrooms and other buildings around the lakes.
  • Helps Partnership Organizations with trail maintenance when needed. Assists the public in a courteous manner to fully utilize the facilities around the lake area. Helps with site preparation and clean up with all licensed agreement events at Fellows Lake.
  • Maintains supplies of janitorial products. Replenishes paper and soap products in public and employee restrooms, locker areas, and lunchrooms.
  • Performs minor maintenance and servicing of groundskeeping equipment. Responsible for hauling and moving equipment to other Water Treatment locations and vehicle maintenance when needed.
  • Performs minor facility repair including carpentry, 110/220 volt electric, and domestic plumbing. Paints furniture, equipment, and building structures.
  • Trains and directs temporary personnel when utilized.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned by management.
