Overview Under the supervision of the Executive Chef or Culinary Director, the Utility Worker is responsible for following established procedures to ensure the sanitary maintenance of the kitchen and the entire food service areas. This position is responsible for set-up, operation, and cleaning of the dish machine. Cleans and sanitizes dishware, pots and pans, and all food service areas. Responsible for proper handling and storage of clean dishware. Receives goods under the direction of the Executive Chef or Supervisor and stores these goods in the appropriate areas. Reports shortages on deliveries or poor-quality products. Follows accepted and proper receiving techniques. Takes temperature readings of dish machine and sanitizer tests of third bay sink and reports any substandard conditions.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
1 year of experience in a similar position is required.
Must be able to speak, read and write the English language in an understandable manner.
Must be able to understand and wear Personal Protective Equipment when needed and understand the Fundamentals of Material Safety Data Sheets.
Ability to focus on task needs and perform intellectual executive functions as related to the functions of the kitchen operation.
Ability to execute intellectual tasks and duties under conditions of high demand and distraction.
Ability to complete the essential functions of the position with or with adaptive personal devices (e.g., hearing aid, corrective lenses).
Ability to operate equipment and technology required for the position.
Able to wear personal protective equipment.
Must be able to communicate effectively.
Able to assist with the evacuation of residents under emergency status to the best of their physical ability.
Able to function independently with integrity and work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
Able to constantly stand, walk, and move intermittently throughout the workday.
Able to frequently push and/or pull a force of up to 15 pounds as relates to rolling food cart, box of food.
Able to position oneself to access overhead, outward, mid-thigh, and floor level culinary items.
Able to handle, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally and 35 pounds frequently.
Able to frequently perform efforts and tasks as related to culinary work duties, as related to working at kitchen prep tables, procuring supplies or returning times to/from noted locations, floor level to overhead.

Responsibilities

Loads, washes, and unloads certain items, trays, platters, and large mixing bowls using correct manual dishwashing techniques.
Disposes of and transports all trash, cardboard, and linen bags to the disposal area.
Returns clean dishes, utensils, and equipment including carts to proper storage areas.
Sweeps and mops all walk-in coolers, floors, and coverings.
Performs heavy duty cleaning assignment as assigned.
Receives goods under the direction of the cooks and stores goods in the appropriate areas using FIFO.
Properly cleans and stores all recyclables in the proper containers and delivers them to the dock for disposal.
Cleans recyclable containers.
Assists with setting up functions including moving tables, setting up chafing dishes, and assisting with delivering beverages and food into designated areas.
Performs other duties as assigned.
