A Utility Worker II works under general direction within a framework of established procedures and is expected to perform a wide variety of skilled, semi-skilled maintenance, repair, installation, and alteration tasks. Judgment and initiative are required in making decisions in accordance with established guidelines.

  • Conducts construction, repair, and maintenance of water and wastewater lines and equipment including valves, fittings, and taps.
  • Conducts new construction and installation of water and wastewater lines and equipment.
  • Conducts basic maintenance, lubrication, and repair of equipment and facilities; responsible for operating various vehicles and equipment including backhoes, dump trucks, and frontend loaders.
  • Conducts the maintenance, repair, and construction of plant and facilities; operates various hand and power tools and equipment to service or maintain city facilities or grounds.
  • Requires a High School diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in utilities maintenance and repair or closely related training.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid Class B CDL license including General Knowledge, Tanker, and Air Brakes within the first 6 months following employment.
  • Must be able to obtain the following certifications within the first 3 years following employment: Water Distribution, Water Production, Water Treatment, Wastewater Collection, and Wastewater Treatment.
  • Requires six months' experience in water or wastewater repair and maintenance or closely related experience.
