About The Position

The Utility Worker position involves performing general labor tasks related to the installation and maintenance of gas and electrical lines. The role requires physical labor, including digging trenches, operating heavy equipment, and ensuring safety compliance on job sites. The worker will also assist skilled tradespeople and may be required to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Ability to dig, spread, and level dirt, gravel, and sand.
• Experience loading and unloading materials from a truck by hand or with a forklift.
• Ability to perform tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools.
• Knowledge of safe handling of tools and equipment commonly used in the trade.
• Ability to work in confined spaces such as manholes and vaults.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with operating heavy machinery such as dump trucks and boring machines.
• Knowledge of inspection methods and techniques for compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

• Sets up barricades and traffic cones and acts as flagman to direct traffic.
• Breaks ground or pavement using a jackhammer or other methods as needed.
• Digs trenches using shovels or other methods as conditions prescribe.
• Tamps and backfills trenches as required.
• Operates equipment for the installation of electrical and gas lines, including backhoes and trenching machines.
• Assists in the construction of duct banks, manholes, and natural gas mains.
• Cleans tools, equipment, and specified work areas as needed.
• Observes and reports equipment status and compliance with regulations.
• Works independently and prioritizes tasks to meet unit and customer needs.
• Performs job duties in a safety-conscious manner.
