About The Position

The Utility Technician I is an entry-level position within the Public Works team of the Town of Windsor, responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the utility system, specifically in water distribution and wastewater collection. This role includes operating and maintaining various equipment, responding to citizen inquiries, and assisting with compliance samples required by health authorities. The position requires on-call duties and adherence to safety practices while providing essential utility services to the community.

Requirements

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• One year of related experience in water and/or sewer distribution preferred.
• Valid Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within one year.
• Colorado Class (1) Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection certification or ability to obtain within one year.
• CPR/1st Aid certification within three months of employment.

Nice To Haves

• Basic hands-on mechanical experience with pumps, valves, fire hydrants, and meters.
• Ability to efficiently use a smart mobile phone device.
• Computer data processing skills for record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Perform installation of utility system pipelines including wastewater collection and water distribution.
• Operate and maintain equipment necessary for utility services, such as dump trucks and backhoes.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on utility systems including pumps and pipelines.
• Assist with routine and compliance samples required by the State Health Department and the EPA.
• Respond to citizen inquiries and complaints regarding utility services.
• Coordinate with outside contractors for maintenance and repair work.
• Complete monthly meter readings for utility billing.
• Assist with water disconnects for non-payment of utility accounts.
• Prepare operational logs and reports regarding utility systems.
• Participate in snow removal operations as needed.
